homemade strawberry jam
medium
let me start by saying that i am not a chef nor have i any experience making anything at all! i simply do things with the little knowledge that i have! this simply worked for me and i am yet to give myself food poisoning <3
ingredients:
half a lemon
six big strawberries (or as many as you'd like... i used six which made half a jar)
1 and 1/2 cups of white sugar (i used caster sugar)
how to:
i started by cutting the stems off my strawberries and cutting them in half (remember to wash your fruit before!) then i placed them in my pot (non stick is the best). next i cut my lemon in half and squeezed the lemon juice into my pot.
i put my pot on the stove and heated it on medium before i then mashed my strawberries using a potato masher. once it was mashed to my liking (i prefer less chucks, but it's up to you), then i added my sugar and stirred it all together until the sugar was dissolved before i turned the heat down to low. now is the waiting game, make sure to continue stirring until you get the perfect consistency.
the best way (that worked for me) to check if your jam is done, is to take a plate and place a bit of it onto the plate, let it run down the plate... if the jam is super runny and runs down quickly, let it cook some more. you want the jam to run slowly down the plate, that's when i turned the stove off and let my jam cool down.
once cooled down, i moved my jam into my prefered jar and placed it into the fridge. i waited at least 24 hours until i used it on some toast! i loved the taste and texture!
extras...
some people don't like seeds in their jam, you can sive them out, however i did not.
